July 2: Read Genesis 6:1-6

by Brenda Bowers PhD on July 02, 2021

To be mighty means, among other things, to possess great power or strength; to be fearsome and exceeding. This week’s word looks at one of the most extreme acts of God; the destruction of His creation through a deluge or flood.

As the earth’s population increased, so did sin, which included unequal marriages between mighty believers from the lineage of Seth, and women of the descendants of Cain. These unions polluted the purity fought so hard for by Adam and Eve’s righteous son, Seth.  As the generations evolved and their behavior veered even further away from God, it distressed the Creator that He ever made man, because the outcome was so mightily abominable.

Through God’s covenant with Noah, a remnant was spared, but the world was never the same after this divine, supernatural act of destruction by the Creator. However mighty we think we may become, remember, that He Who is the Mightiest is still the
ruler and has the final say regarding His own.
