July 3: Read Ruth 2:1-7

It’s hard to find a love story more compelling than that of Ruth and Boaz, and the matriarch Naomi.

Boaz was a relative or a kinsman to Naomi’s late husband Elimelech. Boaz was a mighty man of wealth, and God put compassion in his heart for Ruth who was a Moabite or a Gentile non-believer of the Holy God of Israel. However, Ruth was willing to leave her people and her country to follow her mother-in-law after she and her sister’s husbands both passed away.

The Lord recognized the mighty humility exemplified by Ruth, nd so did Boaz. This favor not only gave Ruth sheaves of barley left over in the field, it also resulted in renewed life to Naomi, a new wife for Boaz, and a continued pure bloodline for the coming of Christ. When we stand in all our might, not forsaking the leading of the Lord, we find favor, fortune, and sometimes, even family.
