September 25: Read Proverbs 15:13-15

by Brenda Bowers PhD on September 25, 2020

Misunderstandings often create irreparable consequences when not cleared up in a speedy and respectful manner. This text highlights ways to avoid such situations.  Here, Solomon encourages a merry heart, meaning one of laughter and levity as a great way to prevent being sorrowful or of a broken spirit.

The importance of this characteristic of “happiness” is that it provides a clear path to avoid subsequent destruction of our spirit and being vulnerable to perpetual sadness. Understanding this paradox causes us to seek knowledge versus seeking foolish counsel expecting wise results.

When sorrow sets in, all life leads to paths of evil and misfortune, but when one’s heart remains merry, life is a continual feast of joy, despite the circumstances.

Have you made a commitment to always seek good instead of evil? Remember, we reap what we seek.
